Director’s Note

Growing up Catholic, I vaguely recall learning about Dorothy Day. It wasn’t until adulthood—witnessing extreme poverty from Mexico and the Eastern Bloc, to the Romani in the Mediterranean and back to the streets of NYC—that I truly grasped her legacy:

All are welcome. All belong.

This is a story about love. Aren’t they all?

Dorothy’s life was an exercise in learning to love—family, lovers, enemies, the poor, God...Herself. In this play, we see the triangle that develops between her lover, Forster, and God. Did she abandon her earthly love for an invisible being, or did it simply transform?

Her impact on social justice was born in the radical collective of artists, scientists, thinkers, and seekers that she welcomed into her home and heart. It saved countless lives—including her own, and that, I believe is beautiful.

Beauty will save the world…

Immense gratitude goes out to my dear friend, Laura for giving us this beautiful play; to Ann Citron & The Rosendale Theatre Collective for the use of their historic space; to friends, family and community members for their encouragement; to my husband, Jordan Cintron, for his enduring support, patience and belief in me; and, of course to our greatest creations, Raiden & Morrigan, who drive me to pursue a world full of beauty and love.
