Our Debut Production…

We Keep the Shells

This new play, written by NYC playwright & author, Laura Pittenger, and set in a Staten Island beach house in the mid 1920s, is an intimate, powerful look at the early life of Dorothy Day—the radical journalist, social activist, and bohemian whose work co-founding The Catholic Worker ignited a global movement for social justice, labor rights, and care for the vulnerable.

Her legacy is deeply dynamic and incredibly relevant in today's world, fraught with precarious and tense circumstances surrounding our culture's most marginalized communities.

This piece showcases the sense of belonging amidst varied cultural and philosophical differences that Dorothy Day sought to embody and provides profound insight into one of the 20th century’s most dynamic figures.

Premiering this September 30th at The Rosendale Theatre with the following cast:

Kiana Duggan-Haas (Dorothy Day)
Lauren Thayer (Della Day, her sister & Narrator)
Jon Lee (Forster Battherham, her lover)
Kimberley Hellem (Freda, a neighbor)
Chuck Cahill (Sasha, Freda’s husband)
Jim Keenen (Smitty, a swarthy local)
Tom Roberts (Realtor/Priest/Agent)
